It is good news that the wholesale price of gas has dropped down to the levels seen before Russia's invasion of Ukraine. But I am concerned by some of the statements from energy companies about passing this drop on to customers and at reports about the high numbers of vulnerable customers being forced to go on pre-payment meters.
Over the weekend the Business Secretary announced a plan to stop energy companies forcibly entering homes and installing prepayment meters. I hope this is effective but we need to keep all options on the table.
In Parliament this afternoon, I asked Energy minister Graham Stuart, to set out what action the Government would take if energy companies did not play fair.
