Locally, I have been working with Nicola Brindley MBE and the J9 initiative to support survivors of domestic abuse here in Rushcliffe and Nottinghamshire. The J9 initiative was set up in memory of Janine Mundy (AKA J9), a mother of 2, who was killed by her estranged husband. The J9 initiative aims to provide training to staff in the public and voluntary sectors to increase understanding and awareness surrounding the complex issue of domestic abuse. In Parliament, I have been working with campaigners such as Natasha Saunders to include a 'threats to share' amendment in the Domestic Abuse Act. A 'threats to share' amendment makes it illegal to threaten to share intimate images or videos of another person without their consent a criminal act. I was pleased to see that the Government has listened to the concerns of survivors like Natasha and included the 'threats to share' amendment in the Domestic Abuse Act before it received royal assent in April 2021.
