I am ensuring that we continue to deliver on our pledge to recruit 20,000 more police officers across the country, backed up with the powers they need to keep our streets and communities safe.
We have already recruited almost9000 police officers, so we are ahead of schedule to reach this target by the end of this Palriament. I will continue to speak up for Nottinghamshire Police and ensure that we are getting our fair share of new officers.
I meet regularly with the Chief Constable for Nottinghamshire Police and monthly with the Chief Inspector covering Rushcliffe, to discuss local crime concerns and policing issues. Enforcing lockdown laws has been a big challenge for the police. I went out on patrol with them in West Bridgford in the first lockdown to find out more. I want to thank them for the incredible job they have done in difficult circumstances.
I recently released a survey asking for your views on Pet Theft on Rushcliffe, which is becoming an increasingly worrying issue and I will be sure to be passing the survey results onto Ministers in DEFRA, our new Police and Crime Commissioner and the UK-first Pet Theft lead at Nottinghamshire Police. I will also be publishing a crime survey to better understand the concerns of Rushcliffe residents in both urban and rural parts of our constituency.
