Tonight the Labour party called a debate on covid security at the UK border, and then only nine of their MPs turned up to speak in it.
The Government is doing a lot to reduce the risk of new covid variants coming to the UK:
Everyone must present a negative covid test on arrival in the UK
Everyone who travels to the UK must self-isolate for up to 10 days
Banned flights from the highest risk areas
British citizens travelling back from high risk will need to self-isolate in a hotel
Checking reasons for travel at the border and increasing enforcement
Increasing physical checks by the police on those self-isolating at home
We are also deploying surge testing where new variants are detected (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-55895019) and powering on with our vaccine programme – nearly 9 million people have been vaccinated so far.
