Yesterday I got to learn more about the new Pharmacy First service that is open to people across Rushcliffe by experiencing how the service works and speaking with pharmacists in Parliament about how the conditions would be treated in a community pharmacy.
Many of you will remember last month we launched the Pharmacy First service, meaning patients can now get treatment for seven common conditions directly (Sinusitis, Sore throat, Earache, Infected insect bite, Impetigo, Shingles & Uncomplicated urinary tract infections in women) from their local pharmacy, without the need for a GP appointment or prescription. This follows on from the Government’s commitment to investing £645 million in community pharmacy as part of the Delivery plan for the NHS, with 97% of pharmacies across Rushcliffe offering the scheme. This will also free up 10 million GP appointments by next winter.
