I’m so pleased that the government has announced a cut to the cost of Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) for women experience menopause. This means that many women who struggle with the symptoms of menopause will save hundreds of pounds and still improve their lives. This was a major ask of the Join The #menopauserevolution campaign that came to speak to MPs in Parliament.
With the new prescription pre payment system, HRT will cost less than £20 per year meaning that more women can access these drugs on top of the 400,000 women that rely on it.
Approximately a quarter of women experience severe symptoms when going through the change. This can seriously impact their quality of life and it’s great news that the treatment to ease these symptoms will be cheaper and more readily available.

This builds on the government’s Women’s Health Strategy which committed to prioritise and personalise menopause care. Other reforms include the appointment of a Menopause Employment Champion in the DWP and a Nationfal Menopause Care Improvement Plan.
