Ruth Edwards has welcomed new defence funding which will help protect our country against present-day threats, whilst creating tens of thousands of jobs across the country.
This investment represents the largest increase in the nation’s defence in 30 years, providing an extra £24.1 billion over the next four years. The commitment also aims to make the UK a global leader in cyber and space and makes the UK the largest defence spender in Europe.
Over the next four years, this investment will support out world leading defence industry creating jobs and harnessing the UK’s skills in construction and science whilst reinvigorating industries over the coming decades.
Commenting on the announcement, Ruth said:
“I am delighted to hear that we are providing our heroic Armed Forces with the largest financial boost since the end of the Cold War.
“Every day, the dedicated men and women of our armed forces put themselves at risk around the world. We need to show that we will always give them the resources they need to do their jobs and keep them safe.
“We also need to make sure that the structure and functions of our military are setup to deal with tomorrow’s threats as well as the challenges of today.
“Protecting our country is the first duty of any Government and I am pleased to see this long-term commitment to our armed forces.
