Rushcliffe’s Conservative Parliamentary Candidate Ruth Edwards joined local residents this afternoon to plant 600 bulbs on Heathervale Green in West Bridgford.
This bulb planting was the brainchild of Compton Acres ward councillor Alan Phillips and will see 200 bluebells, 200 daffodils and 200 snowdrops replanted in this restored green space.
During the construction of the tram in 2015, Heathervale Green was used as a storage depot for equipment and heavy machinery which destroyed the original planting and spoiled the look of this well-loved natural area.
Once construction was complete, Cllr Phillips approached Rushcliffe Borough Council who paid the £85 bill for replacement bulbs from local nursery Naturescape.
He then set-about finding a team to plant and restore the green.
Protecting our environment is a top priority for Ruth. She will be pushing for the extension of Rushcliffe’s award-winning recycling services to make Rushcliffe’s record even better and will shortly be launching a campaign for a plastic-free West Bridgford. This encourages local businesses to cut-out single-use plastics for more environmentally friendly alternatives.
Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Rushcliffe Ruth Edwards said:
“This is a fantastic initiative supported by Rushcliffe Borough Council and goes to show their strong commitment to supporting green initiatives and looking after our area. I would like to congratulate Alan and local residents for this fantastic initiative and I look forward to seeing the bulbs in full bloom in the spring.”
Cllr Alan Phillips said:
“Even after the tram construction compound was removed the Green was further hampered by large drainage pumps installed at this location. It took years to complete the work and restore the area. Through close liaison with the Design and Landscape Officer at Rushcliffe Borough Council we have been able to replace trees and shrubs that were lost during the works. With these now getting established I felt it was time to get some colour back into the Green ready for the Spring.”
