Supporting Survivors of Domestic Abuse
Domestic abuse has increased during the coronavirus lockdowns.
I wanted to help support survivors in Rushcliffe, by creating a network of safe spaces across the constituency where they can go to access help.
Working in partnership with Rushcliffe Borough Council, Nottinghamshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner and campaigner Nicola Brindley, I’ve been organising training events for local communities so they can provide a safe space where survivors can go to find out about the help that’s available to them and to access that help.
So far 56 people have taken part in the training from all across Rushcliffe and I look forward to holding more sessions next year.
I also want to make sure our laws are up to date, providing survivors with the best possible protection. I was proud to vote for the Domestic Abuse Bill this year.
And I am working with campaigner Natasha Saunders to outlaw threats to share intimate images which many abusers use as a form of control.
